If you follow me on Twitter or are my friend on Facebook, you know that my vacuum cleaner basically caught on fire this week! So my question is...
What is the most you've spent on a vacuum cleaner, what brand was it, and was it worth it?

The most expensive vacuum cleaner was roughly $80 and has lasted several years now. It is a Bissel.
When my last vacuum died a miserable, smelly death I took it back to the store since it was still under warranty. Because I had had so many problems w/ it & since I have 2 dogs & 2 cats, I ended up getting a Dyson Animal something. I love it but feel that $549 is too much money. It does do a great job though w/ all of the different types of fur we have.
Gosh, it has been so long. Probably $100?
A Eureka. I paid roughly $80 for it I think. I love it.
Gosh! I think I paid some ridiculous price for our Kirby. It's over ten years old and still going strong!
i never actually bought a vacuum for myself. but someone bought us an insane $300 dyson as a wedding gift
$400.00 for a Oreck XL Shield. Best one I've owned. So Light to carry and really dose a good job.
I bought a Dyson last year, and paid $400 for it. But I love it!
We just spent 87 bucks on a vacuum, which is the mostwe've spent. I'd love a Dyson, but we never have that much extra cash lying around.
I've never really spent alot on a vacuum. My last one I got on clearance for around $40.00 and I HATE it. I've gone through SO many belts on it, it's not even funny! I'd LOVE a pink Dyson but the thought of spending $400.00 on a vacuum cleaner makes me want to throw up!
Love all the comments. Thank you!
We just had a rainbow salesman come out and try to sell us a $2000 vaccum that is probably the best I've ever seen...but holy moley are you serious....$2000!!!!
Needless to say, we politely declined only after vacuuming my entire family room and removing an ink stain from the carpet. Might as well get something out of the 3hour presentation. :-D
Just over 100 and it is a Eureka Capture. It does its job but is not awesome.
1000 dollars!!! and I hated the thing. I now have a hoover that is worth about 250.00 (i got it as a review) and I absolutely love it
We bought the consumer reports top vacuum pick for uprights a few years back - a Kenmore. It was probably $250. Works great!
We recently spent a little under $100 on a Bissel. I toyed with the Dyson, but couldn't see spending that much since we have little carpets in the house.
I love my Dyson, it works so great and it so easy to push. It was totally worth the money!
I would spend under $100 for one if I had to buy one. So far I have been lucky and gotten family hand-me-downs!!! And they work fine.
In our last home we put in a Whole House Vac and I LOVED that!!!
I was going to put one in first thing in my new (2yo) home, but the money never could get allocated to it. Yet. That is. I am still praying for one. OK, hoping because, I don't want to waste my prayer on a vac!!! There really are more important things to pray for!!!
Anyway, I also love the Rainbow, but agree that the price is so very high. It is a good machine and maybe it is worth the money. But not for me right now.
My grandma had a Rainbow and it lasted for at least a hundred years. Well maybe less than that, my sister took it when Grandma died and is still using it. I remember using this vac as a kid, so it is at least 40+ years old.
Sorry for the novel. I just am a bit chatty at the moment.
Good Luck,
Sharinskishe
My vacuum cleaner is 12 years old. It was the store display so I don't remember what I paid but I remember it was "the right price". It's a Dirt Devil brand.
I may have to write about vacuum cleaners on my blog - who would have thought vacuum cleaners would be such a great conversation starter!
I don't remember, but I have had it for about 3 years and still no problems so I guess it was worth it!
I think $200 and it was for a Kenmore. It's great for dog hair.
