Proverbs 25

¹ These are more proverbs of Solomon, copied by the men of Hezekiah king of Judah:

Proverbs 25-29 were written in the 10th century B.C., but compiled and edited by King Hezekiah's men from 715 to 686 B.C. This was a time of spiritual renewal led by the king, who wisely showed great interest in these writings.

⁹ If you argue your case with a neighbor,
do not betray another man's confidence,

¹⁰ or he who hears it may shame you
and you will never lose your bad reputation.

I've seen that...for someone to really understand why I'm doing something I would have to share another person's secret.

¹⁴ Like clouds and wind without rain
is a man who boasts of gifts he does not give.

I know what this is like because San Diego teases us with clouds w/o rain all the time!

²⁰ Like one who takes away a garment on a cold day,
or like vinegar poured on soda,
is one who sings songs to a heavy heart.

This reminds me of "pouring salt on a wound". Have you been in that setting, though? Someone shares something negative that just happened and someone else has to mention how it's all just fine for them. It's like taking away some one's coat on a cold day!

²⁸ Like a city whose walls are broken down
is a man who lacks self-control.

Wow, this verse is so powerful to me! When I lack self-control, I allow any potential danger or sin to overtake me!
