Proverbs 16

Verse 2-All a man's ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the LORD. SO many times I think the wrongs I commit are not as bad as the ones committed by others. Like I'm the judge of that.

Verse 6-Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the LORD a man avoids evil. Wow, I think I try to avoid evil by telling myself, "Alicia, don't do ____", but this gives me something TO do..."fear the Lord!"

Verse 9-In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps. I needed to hear this today. Dan and I are up for orders again in a few months, and it's a pretty mind-boggling, stress-inducing process. It is very easy for my heart to plan what's best for us. I will even fill my time day-dreaming about it. No need because whatever happens, the Lord determines our steps.

Verse 20-Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is he who trusts in the LORD. Oh, Lord, may I trust you for everything!

Verse 23-A wise man's heart guides his mouth, and his lips promote instruction. I shamefully have a fool's mouth.

Verse 25-There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death. I know many of these Proverbs are similar in theme and repeat certain phrases, but this entire verse is the exact duplicate as Proverbs 14:12! That was on King Solomon's mind! Matthew 7:13-14 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it . But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."

Verse 31-Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained by a righteous life. My crown is just hidden under the work of a great colorist.

Vs 3- Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and you plans will succeed.

This can be a bit misunderstood if you just glance at it. Surefire success is probably what most people think, including me! But as I pondered it I had to think...would I want to commit some of my plans to the Lord? My selfish, ungodly, not good plans would require conviction if committed to the Lord. Maybe that is why he said it. If I want to know the intention of my plan I should commit it to the Lord!

vs 11- Honest scales and balances are from the Lord; all the weights in the bag are of his making.

The only honest scale is of the Lord. Everything in my life has to be weighed by Him. He will let me know the value.

vs 26- The laborer's appetite works for him; his hunger drives him on.

What am I hugry for? What drive's me on? John 4:34 "My food," Jesus said, "is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work." Am I truly hungry for the Lord's food?

I must admit Alicia, I was cracking up at your vs 31 comment!!!

VS 2 - right there with you on this! I am always thinking that my sin is not so bad as that... but all sins are equal in the sight of the Lord!
