Proverbs 29

3 A man who loves wisdom brings joy to his father,
but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth.

I think the way this is written is so profound: "companion of prostitutes" is the contrast to a man who loves wisdom.

11 A fool gives full vent to his anger,
but a wise man keeps himself under control.

I love how it doesn't say the wise man lacks anger, only that he knows how to keep it under control-the fool doesn't know how to.

15 The rod of correction imparts wisdom,
but a child left to himself disgraces his mother.

Wow, this is SO TRUE!!! Children who are not guided and instructed cause huge, embarrassing scenes.

17 Discipline your son, and he will give you peace;
he will bring delight to your soul.

I love that feeling of delight when one of my kids makes the right decision after months (or years) of me trying to train them in the way they should go!

18 Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint;
but blessed is he who keeps the law.

Read Romans 7:7 - 8:1

20 Do you see a man who speaks in haste?
There is more hope for a fool than for him.

Oh, Lord, help me to slow my verbal responses.

25 Fear of man will prove to be a snare,
but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe.

I need to remember this!

vs 6- An evil man is snared by his own sin, but a righteous one can sing and be glad.

This reminds me of what you were saying last night. Gladness! Greatfulness!

vs 15/17/19- The rod of correction imparts wisdom, but a child left to himself disgraces his mother. Discipline your son, and he will give you peace; he will bring delight to your soul. A servant cannot be corrected by mere words; though he understands, he will not respond.

I am learning so much about my position as a parent in Proverbs. Due to some situations in life I have been extremely ineffective as a disciplinarian. I am learning that even though it is difficult I must rise up as the ruler of my children.

Lord, I thank you for your wisdom. May I treasure it in my heart. Give me the strenth to put into practice what you are showing me. Amen
